Goose (got-goose.com) is a budgeting app run by Michael Bailey in the United Kingdom. This page says what Goose keeps about you, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: michael@mrjb.co.uk.
What Goose keeps
- Your sign-in. When you sign in with Google or Apple, Goose receives your email address, your name and (from Google) your profile picture. It never sees your password.
- Your budget. The accounts, transactions, categories, payees, notes, targets and balances you enter or import, and the receipts and bank statements you upload.
- Bank data you choose to connect. If you connect a bank through Plaid, or link a bank's Google Sheet, the transactions they provide for the accounts you link.
- Connections you approve. If you connect an assistant such as Claude to Goose, a record of that grant, so it can be revoked.
- Notification settings. If you turn on bill reminders, your browser's push subscription.
Goose uses one cookie, to keep you signed in. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and your data is never sold or shared for marketing.
Google data
If you link a bank's Google Sheet, Goose asks Google for the drive.file permission: it can open only the spreadsheets you pick in Google's file picker, nothing else in your Google Drive. Goose reads the transactions in those sheets to check and fill in your budget. It does not change or delete your files, and it uses the data for nothing else.
Goose's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is not used for advertising, is not sold, is not used to train AI models, and is not read by people except to fix a problem you have asked about, for security, or where the law requires it.
You can remove Goose's access at any time from the Accounts page (Disconnect Google), or at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare hosts Goose and stores its data and files.
- Google and Apple, for sign-in, and Google for the sheets you link.
- Plaid, only if you connect a bank through it.
- An assistant you connect (such as Claude) sees what you ask it to look at, under that provider's own terms.
How long it is kept
Your data stays while your account exists. Deleting your account (your profile → Delete account) removes your sign-in and every budget only you belong to, with its receipts, statements and backups, straight away, and closes your bank and Google connections at Plaid and Google. The database's own recovery copies expire within 30 days. Shared budgets stay with the other members. The data retention and disposal policy gives the full schedule.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how it is used. Goose's export gives you your whole budget at any time. To exercise any right, email the address above. If you are unhappy with the answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Bank and Google access tokens are encrypted before they are stored. Each budget is visible only to its members.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Significant changes will be shown in the app.
